We provide a series of recommendations for looking up documents in the Mondragon Unibertsitatea Library catalogue
See catalogue
When searching for bibliographical information, you can use the rapid/simple search tool and the advanced search tool.
The simple search tool is most useful when you have basic information about a document. Enter your search term(s) in the box and use the drop-down menu on the right to select the search field. Next, click on the “search” button.
You can search any field by using the “word” option or by specifying the field that is most relevant, such as “author”, “title” or “subject”.
- If you are looking for a specific work by a specific author: enter the surname of the author and a key word from the title in the search line and select the “word” field..
- If you are looking for bibliographic material about a certain topic: we recommend that you start by using the “word” field to search for the term(s) that best summarise your topic. If this yields a high number of results, try searching in the specific “subject” field.
- If you are looking for a Bachelor's, Master’s or PhD thesis: you can type “Bachelor's”, “Master’s” or “PhD” “thesis” as key words, along with the words that interest you, in the search field, continuing to use the “word” option. You can also select the “Bachelor's thesis”, “Master’s thesis” etc. collections.
- If you are looking for a certain type of document (monograph, journal, video, computer file, sound file etc.): select the type of document that appears in the “all formats” selection box of the drop-down menu.
When you find the document that you are looking for, check the “Details of copies” section. Use the following information to locate the item in the Library:
1Barcode: an alphanumeric code which identifies the copy and enables it to be loaned out, returned or reserved.
2Library: Indicates the Library in which the copy is located. Different copies of the same document can be located in several Libraries.
3Call number: helps you to find the physical location of the document on the shelves.
4.2. How call number is displayed in the catalogue
In the Business Studies and Humanity and Education Sciences Faculties:
In the Faculty of Engineering:
In BCC:
4.3. Explanation of the call number in each Library
In Basque Culinary Center - BCC:
Call number: TX 714 .A38 2016
The BCC Library organises its resources using the Library of Congress Classification (LCC). These signatures are organised as follows:
- The first capital letters represent the main subject areas and their subdivisions. In this example TX = Economía doméstica
- Each subdivision is subclassified by number. 714 = Cocina – Libros de cocina – A partir de 1800 – Colecciones generales de recetas
- The following element is an alphanumeric code which reflects the surname(s) of the authors of the documents. A38 = Aduriz, Andoni
- The final numbers reflect the year in which the document was published. In this case, 2016
When locating a document, you should first approach the shelves which are alphabetically ordered. Each alphabetic group is numerically ordered. Finally, search for the surname(s) of the author and the year of publication.
For example:
- BF431 .L67 2011 will come before TX714 .A38 2016 on the shelves
- TX714 .A38 2016 will come before TX716 .S84 2000 on the shelves
- TX714 .A38 2016 will come before TX714 .L46 2012 on the shelves
- TX714 .A38 2016 will come before TX714 .A38 2017 on the shelves
In Humanity and Education Sciences Faculty and Enpresagintza:
Call number: 5.20 PIA cri
These signatures are organised as follows:
- Numbers: indicate the main subject areas and allow for general numerical ordering.
- Capital letters: indicate the first three letters of the author’s surname and allow for alphabetic ordering.
- Lower case letters: indicate the first three letters of the title of the work and allow for alphabetic ordering.
To locate the book, you should go to the shelves corresponding to number 5 and look for 5.20. Within this section, the books will be alphabetically ordered based on the second line of the signature, in this case PIA. Within this system, the books will be alphabetically ordered based on the third line, in this case cri.
In the Faculty of Engineering:
Call number: 12 14 005
These signatures are organised as follows:
- The first line of numbers indicates the broad subject area.
- The second line of numbers indicates a more specific theme within the subject area indicated by the first line.
- The third line is a numerical order within that subject area.
To locate the book, you should go to the shelves corresponding to number 12 (subject area: Mathematics). Within this section, the number 14 corresponds to the subject area of Differential Equations. Within this block, the books are arranged in numerical order, so we would select the book with 005 in the third line of the label.
4.4. The different possible statuses of the document are as follows:
Available (Disponible): If the document is available and located in the Library of your Faculty, look for it on the shelves. If it is available in another Faculty, ask your Library to arrange for the document to be transferred. If you are looking for an electronic resource, you can access it directly using the following link: Testu osorako sarbidea/Acceso al texto completo/Accessthe complete text of the catalogue.
On loan (en préstamo): When the document is on loan, you can reserve it yourself. The Return date field will indicate the day on which the book must be returned. Look at the bar code, and use the "User services" section of the catalogue, to select the “Reserve documents currently on loan” section. Make the reservation in the “Make your reservation” section by entering your account number (your DNI number without letters) and the bar code of the copy you require. When the book has been returned, the Library will let you know that you can collect it.
Not available for loan: There are certain materials which by nature are considered reference only and not available for loan (journals, dictionaries, encyclopaedias, etc.). You are welcome to read these items within the Library premises.
Missing: These are documents which have been temporarily misplaced.
